What Is Background Removal?
Background removal cuts the main subject out of a photo and makes everything around it transparent, so you can place it on a new background. It follows the outline of the person, product or pet. Cropping is different: it only trims the edges, so you still get a rectangle with the old background inside it.

Which Photos Give the Cleanest Cutout?
Photos where the subject clearly stands out from the background give the cleanest cutout. Look for:

- Sharp focus and even light, with the whole subject inside the frame.
What Does the AI Get Wrong?
The AI traces the outline on a 1024×1024 copy of your photo, then stretches that outline to fit. On big photos, edges can look a little soft. These cases need the most care:
- Hair and fur: loose strands can be cut off or keep a thin rim of the old background.
- Glass and clear plastic: they usually come out solid or with holes, not see-through.
- Text and thin lines: small letters and fine strokes can break up or vanish.
- Group shots: the AI keeps what stands out most, so small faces in the back may be dropped or cut in half.
There is no brush to fix a cutout by hand. If an edge goes wrong, try a photo with a plainer background.
Transparent PNG or a Solid Color?
