How This Image Compressor Reduces JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF File Size

The PicsSizer image compressor re-encodes your image with settings you control, so the file gets smaller while the picture still looks right. JPG and WebP use a quality slider from 10 to 100. Compress an Image to a Target File Size

Open the Compression section, type a number in the Target file size field, and pick KB or MB. The compressor then makes up to 8 passes at lower quality levels. If the file is still too big, it makes up to 6 more passes that also scale the dimensions down. This is the fastest way to hit a hard limit, like a 100KB photo cap on an application form or a 1MB attachment rule. If the limit cannot be reached, you get the smallest result the tool could produce instead of an error.

Resize While You Compress

Resizing cuts file size faster than quality alone, so the two controls sit side by side. Pick Max dimension to cap the longest side at a pixel value, with 1920px as the default. Images already smaller than that are left alone. Pick Percentage to scale down by any amount from 1% to 100%. Four fit modes control the shape of the result: Fit keeps the aspect ratio, Contain adds letterbox bars, Cover fills the box and crops the overflow, and Stretch ignores the ratio.

Save a Transparent PNG as JPG With Your Own Background Color

JPG files cannot store transparency. When you set the output format to JPG, a Background color picker appears and the transparent pixels get filled with the color you choose. White is the default, and you can enter any hex value or pick from the presets. Use a dark fill for photos on dark pages, or a brand color for product images. PNG and WebP output keeps transparency exactly as it was.

Strip EXIF, GPS and Timestamp Metadata

Phone cameras write extra data into every photo, including GPS coordinates, camera model, and the date and time of the shot. Strip metadata is turned on by default under Advanced, so this data is removed during compression and the file gets a little smaller too. It also removes the embedded color profile. Turn the toggle off if you need to keep the profile or copyright fields for a print or client workflow.

Progressive JPEG Output

A progressive JPEG loads in passes. Viewers see a rough version of the whole image first, then it sharpens as more data arrives. On slow connections this feels faster than watching a normal JPEG paint from the top down. The Progressive JPEG toggle is on by default and shows up under Advanced whenever the output is JPG.

PNG and GIF Palette Controls

PNG output starts in lossless mode, which keeps every pixel identical and still trims the file. Turn lossless off and two more controls appear: a color palette slider from 2 to 256, and a dithering toggle that blends colors to hide banding in gradients. GIF output has the same 2 to 256 palette slider. Cutting colors is the main way to shrink a PNG icon, a screenshot, or an animated GIF, since flat areas of color compress much better with a smaller palette.
